Laptop Roundup! January’s Issue
This is the Laptop Roundup, where, periodically, I will discuss my recommendations for laptops currently available on the market. I will highlight laptops for the budget conscious, the gamer, the graphic artist, the traveling business person, and the movie/music lover. I will be highlighting various types of laptops, so features, such as price, screen size, screen resolution, processor, memory and keyboard style will vary from post-to-post.
The laptop I’ve come across for this Laptop Roundup is a powerful Dell. Dell is one of the three brands that I currently recommend. This laptop comes with a 6th Gen Intel i7 Processor, which makes it perfect for the gamer, graphic artist, or traveling business person. Because it doesn’t have it’s own dedicated GPU, it won’t play the newest games at the highest settings, but it should still be able to chug along at medium/low settings on new titles.
This laptop is available from the Microsoft Store and is a steal at $479.
The model number is:
Dell Inspiron 15 i5559-3333SLV
Here are some of the desirable specifications:
- Intel i7 6th Gen 6500U
- Full HD 1080P Touchscreen
- 8GB DDR4 1600MHz
- Wireless AC
- Backlit Keyboard
Here are some of the less desirable specifications:
- 1TB 5400 RPM HDD (Not SSD)
- Only 1 USB 3.0 Port (+2 USB 2.0 Ports)
- 5.2 lbs isn’t the best for traveling
This laptop will get the job done. Thanks to the amount of memory, it can easily handle having 20 web browser tabs open, while watching a movie, running Photoshop and checking mail with Outlook in the background. The 6th Gen i7 processor will keep everything chugging along smoothly, and the Wireless AC will allow you to stream or download the largest files as fast as your modem will allow (assuming you also have a Wireless AC router).
To sum this deal up, if you are looking for a powerful laptop with some of the extra frills, then this is it. The only downside is that it comes with a standard Hard Drive instead of Solid State, but at this price it’s hard to find a Solid State with the other specs. On the upside, I can install a Solid State Hard Drive in this machine for you and your bootup time / app loading will be only a fraction of the time.
